This is a great game. My only complaint, (which would be typical of anyone becoming addicted to this game), is that I would love to get my hands on more turns. As for any other complaints that others may have, I can only say that to complain about ANY online game that is free just seems ludicrous to me, and yet I see it over and over again in the gaming community. Get in. Play it. If you're a gamer with limited time, and enjoy the political, and logistical aspects of strategy. Odds are you'll love it. If you don't, however, what have you truly lost?

Alright, so I've been playing for quite a long while. At lst count, 2 years, even before the scripts to attack other players were put in place. If there is one flaw in the game, its not the community, but the developer. The inconsistency of game updates is, by itself, excusable. However, ouright lying and misleading behavior is not.
As I recall, the scripts for boarding were promised to be released "within a few weeks" of November-December '08. In any case, since the attack script was released in February '08, this has been the next on the list of updates.
Case in point: it still hasn't been released yet. In fact, it seems that no one has been even asked to test it yet. Worse, there's been no real timetable released, and the current updates are spotty and generally trivial (e.g. changing the chat room, adding some minor features to planet ownership).
There are plenty more excuses that have been made by the developer--most notably, blaming lack of progress in the game on misbehavior among the community. To solve this, he put in a community manager. As I've documented in my personal forums, this community manager has only posted 1 time in a non-trivial thread, and right now, hasn't logged on for a week.
Furthermore, besides working to improve the game, it seems the developer is busy policing the community, and generally ignores the serious and thoughtful posts about flaws in the game's economics and general direction.

Alright, final judgment:
To concede that the game has potential, I'll rate it a 2. But due to outright developer malfeasance, I doubt it'll be realized.
