I agree, the game is "a work in progress". The developers say so up front. Any multiplayer online game which isn't being developed is heading for the end. Don't turn away just because "it's not done yet". :)
They've just finished up a big round of work under the hood to address many of the bugs that have crept in through a year of rapid growth and content expansion. Changes to improve game play and balance are frequent - even major revamps of core systems like the skills. The staff (it's true, there's only 2) remain responsive to player suggestions and complaints. The player base is extremely helpful as well.
"Can't seem to unsubscribe" (I assume BillyJo meant that) is probably PayPal's fault, you have to make sure that the subscription (within PayPal) is cancelled. That's not something that the game devs can do for you. I know that a number of people *have* managed to unsubscribe when real life/classes start needing more attention.
It's a good game for casual play, but if you're looking for something with a lot more depth than K. of L. or Urban Dead, and like the horror/Lovecraft theme - give it a try!
(Disclaimer: I've been a player for nearly a year.)

Jon Smythson was too kind. This game is a trap. They get you to pay and give you some early level quests, but as you advance more and more of the quests are broken. Then you can't seem to subscribe! They keep taking your money! Help!

The two ratings above come, not surprisingly, from some of the higher rated players I saw in the game while I was trying it out.
More objectively, this game must be called a "work in progress." While visually much better than many MPOG's, this game suffers from many bugs, "quests" that are incomplete, and a small staff that are often inattentive to customer needs and comnplaints.
Look elsewhere...
